Ice Out

As of 4/14/2004 the word was not quite but very close. A little breeze and warmth this weekend and we just might be ready to float our guide's brand new 2025 Lund early next week. I know I'm excited to be greeting the coming spring and summer. Folks are doing quite well fishing for pike and walleye along the tributaries where the melting snows are gurgling into the lake. Several fine catch and releases have been reported caught right from shore. A few of the more energetic visitors are hauling small boats or canoes down to the shore and paddling out into the open water near the bridges and culverts. Don't try walking on the remaining ice unless you have webbed feet and a wetsuit. Estelle Hennager is in great spirits this week as she came by to let us know that she topped her beau John by measuring a twenty-seven inch walleye and a fourteen pound northern caught on a recent shore outing just walking distance from this keyboard.

Update as of the morning of April 21, 2004. It looks like ice out is at hand. Today I'll be flying over the region in a friends small plane. We'll be spotting for all clear water and enjoying the spring views. In our annual "Ice Out Challenge" cewlebrated in the fall, Spirit Water Steve picked before April 21, 2004, Guide Leonard picked after. Looks like a tie.
